The SPC marble wall boards are made from natural stone powder, polyvinyl chloride resin and functional stabilizing additives. They are produced through high-temperature mixing, precise extrusion, and multi-layer rolling and shaping processes.The waterproof performance of SPC is exceptionally outstanding.The product's water absorption rate is typically less than 0.3%, which is much lower than that of wood materials. This ensures that problems such as expansion, deformation and mold growth caused by moisture can be effectively prevented.

Although the installation of durable SPC plastic wall panels is convenient, there are still several key points that need to be noted.The wall base must be flat, dry, and sturdy, and the unevenness should be controlled within 2mm/2m.It is recommended to leave the SPC wall panels in the installation environment for more than 48 hours before laying to allow them to adapt to the local temperature and humidity, thus avoiding expansion and contraction problems after installation.

The Challenge:
The hotel needed to upgrade its guest bathrooms and shower rooms with a premium terrazzo aesthetic while avoiding the weight, grout lines, and installation downtime of real terrazzo or ceramic tile. The renovation had to proceed without closing floors or disturbing guests, and the material had to withstand daily steam, cleaning chemicals, and high traffic.

The Arris Solution:

Supplied custom terrazzo-pattern SPC wall panels with ultra-clear digital printing and synchronized embossing, reproducing the authentic speckled aggregate look of real terrazzo.

Each panel was factory-cut to 2400×600mm, enabling floor-to-ceiling installation with fewer seams and less waste.

Panels were installed directly over the existing wall substrate using structural adhesive, with waterproof sealing strips inserted at joints in shower areas.

A factory-bonded moisture barrier was applied to the backside of panels in the wettest zones.

The Result:
The installation was completed rapidly with no demolition, no wet trades, and no guest-floor closures. After continuous use in hot, humid shower environments, the terrazzo-look panels show no swelling, discoloration, mold, or edge lifting. Housekeeping teams clean the surfaces with standard disinfectants without affecting the matte stone texture. Manxin Hotel’s bathrooms now combine the visual appeal of terrazzo with the waterproof durability and low maintenance of SPC.

1. Are SPC marble wall panels truly waterproof enough for a shower?

Yes. The closed-cell SPC core has a water absorption rate typically below 0.3%, and the panel is non-porous throughout. For shower enclosures, we recommend sealing joints with waterproof strips and using a factory-applied backside moisture barrier. Arris panels have been proven in hotel shower rooms with no swelling or mold after continuous use.

2. Can I install these panels directly over my existing bathroom tiles?

Yes. As long as the existing tile surface is clean, dry, and structurally sound, you can bond the SPC panels directly onto it using structural adhesive or mechanical fasteners. There is no need to remove the old tiles, which saves disposal costs and dramatically shortens renovation time.

3. Why do I need to let the panels sit for 48 hours before installation?

SPC panels expand and contract slightly with temperature and humidity. Allowing them to acclimatize for more than 48 hours in the installation environment lets them reach dimensional equilibrium, preventing gaps or buckling after installation. This is a professional installation step that ensures long-term performance.

4. What is the required flatness of the wall base?

The substrate should be flat, dry, and sturdy, with unevenness controlled within 2mm per 2 meters. If the wall is severely uneven, a leveling compound or furring strips may be required before panel installation. Our technical team provides guidance based on your site photos.

5. What thicknesses and sizes are available?

Standard thicknesses include 4.0mm, 5.0mm, 6.0mm, and 8.0mm. Common panel sizes include 600×2400mm, 1200×2400mm, and custom cut-to-size dimensions. For the Manxin Hotel project, panels were supplied at 2400×600mm.

6. Do the panels have a fire rating and SGS certificate?

Yes. Arris SPC marble wall panels are rated GB 8624 B1 fire-retardant, self-extinguish within seconds of flame removal, and produce no molten droplets. SGS fire test reports are available for building permit and insurance submittals.

7. Are the panels safe for immediate occupancy?

Yes. They contain no added formaldehyde and are manufactured without glue. Emissions are at E0 or non-detectable levels, depending on the product line. There is no required ventilation period — rooms can be occupied immediately after installation.

8. Can you match a specific design, such as the terrazzo pattern used at Manxin Hotel?

Absolutely. We develop custom textures using high-definition digital printing and synchronized embossing. Send us your reference image or sample, and our R&D team will produce a matching sample board for approval before mass production.
